B30 brick calculator

B30 has been a common Hungarian masonry product for decades. Its dimensions are 300×175×140 mm, and for a 30 cm wall 35–36 bricks per square metre. Use the data below and free calculator to find your B30 brick quantity, pallet requirements and building material costs in minutes.

Nominal dimensions300×175×140 mm
Wall thickness30 cm
Material requirement35–36 pcs/m²

Example: B30 bricks for one wall

Take a 10 m long, 2.8 m high wall with a 150×120 cm window:

  • Wall area: 10 × 2.8 = 28 m²
  • Window deduction: 28 − 1.8 = 26.2 m² net area
  • Brick requirement: 26.2 × 35 = 917 pcs
  • With 10% reserve: 1 009 pcs
  • Pallet requirement (196/pallet): 6 pallets

With several walls, doors and windows, manual calculations become complex. The Calculator handles each wall's dimensions, deducts openings and calculates pallets and net/gross costs.

Manufacturer comparison: which B30 should you choose?

Several Hungarian manufacturers produce B30 without one uniform standard, so per-m² quantities and pallet capacities differ. The two most common versions are:

Manufacturer pcs/m² pcs/pallet Note
Bakonytherm 35 196 pcs Larger pallet capacity, fewer pallets for the same quantity
Putnoki 36 184 pcs Slightly higher requirement (1 unit/m²), smaller packs

Some suppliers offer split B30 packs of 140 or 168 units. Order quantities and pallets using the selected manufacturer's data and local stock. In practice, price and availability usually matter more than the small per-m² difference.

Mortar requirement: traditional masonry mortar

Unlike Porotherm tongue-and-groove units or Ytong thin-bed adhesive mortar, B30 is laid with conventional full-bed lime-cement or cement mortar. Both horizontal and vertical joints are filled, generally at 1–1.2 cm thickness. B30 therefore uses more mortar per m² than N+F hollow clay walls, whose vertical joints need no mortar. Actual quantities depend on mortar type and joint thickness: use the dry-mix bag's coverage table in kg/m² to determine the number of bags rather than guessing.

Which materials suit each wall thickness?

B30 is one option for a 30 cm wall, but not the only one. Other products in the same thickness range need very different quantities:

Wall thickness Material pcs/m²
25 cmPorotherm 25 N+F10,7
25 cmStandard solid brick102–104
30 cmB30 block brick35–36
30 cmPorotherm 30 N+F16
38 cmPorotherm 38 N+F16

At the same wall thickness, B30 needs over twice as many units as Porotherm 30 N+F. This comes from unit size and mortar requirements, not load capacity. B30 remains popular for main walls, garages and outbuildings because of its usually lower unit price and traditional methods. Compare total costs using the B30 and the Porotherm 30 N+F preset calculator.

Who should choose B30?

B30 is most competitive where unit price and familiar traditional masonry matter more than maximum insulation. It is common in garages, outbuildings, farm buildings and fences, and has also been widely used for house walls. It needs no special tools or ground thin-bed technology, so masons can use familiar methods. For lower heat loss and thinner walls, consider Porotherm N+F or Ytong aerated concrete. If unit price and straightforward workmanship are the main priorities, B30 remains competitive.

B30 brick questions

How many B30 bricks per square metre?

Manufacturer figures for a 30 cm wall are 35–36 pcs/m² (Bakonytherm: 35, Putnoki: 36), with 10–12 mm joints.

What are B30 brick dimensions?

B30's nominal size is 300×175×140 mm. It forms a 30 cm wall. More dimensions: brick dimension table.

How many B30 bricks on a pallet?

184–196 per pallet depending on manufacturer (Bakonytherm: 196, Putnoki: 184); some suppliers offer 140–168-unit packs. Details: how many bricks per pallet?

How does B30 differ from Porotherm?

B30 is a smaller traditional block brick, while Porotherm is a larger tongue-and-groove hollow clay unit: Porotherm 30 N+F needs 16 pcs/m², B30 35–36. Porotherm is quicker to lay and insulates better; B30 is usually cheaper per unit. Compare total costs using the calculator to compare.
