How many bricks per square metre?
Bricks per square metre depend on product type and wall thickness: solid bricks in a 12 cm wall: 52 pcs/m², 102–104 pcs/m² for 25 cm, B30 block bricks: 35–36 pcs/m², Porotherm 30/38/44: 16 pcs/m², Ytong: 8.33 pcs/m² are required. The table below lists manufacturer figures for common types; the calculator determines quantities for your total wall area.
No mental arithmetic needed: the calculator deducts openings and gives pallet quantities:

| Brick type | Unit dimensions (mm) | Wall thickness | pcs/m² |
|---|---|---|---|

| Porotherm 10 N+F (partition) | 100×500×238 | 10 cm | 8 |
| Ytong Classic P2-0,5 | 600×200×300 | 30 cm | 8,33 |
Manufacturer quantities assume roughly 1 cm (10–12 mm) joints for traditional bricks. More on unit dimensions: brick dimension table.
How many B30 bricks per square metre?
For a 30 cm wall 35–36 B30 block bricks per square metre: Bakonytherm states 35 and Putnoki 36. B30's 300 mm side determines wall thickness, leaving a 175×140 mm face, about 18.5×15 cm including joints; this gives 35–36 pcs/m².
Many people recall 14–16 pcs/m² but that figure applies not to B30, but to the much larger Porotherm hollow clay units (16 pcs/m²). Using that for B30 would leave more than half the bricks missing. A quick check: a 25 m² wall needs 25 × 36 = 900 pcs B30 kell.

How many solid bricks per square metre?
The number of 250×120×65 mm solid bricks depends on wall thickness, as thicker walls have more rows of bricks behind each other:
| 12 cm wall (half-brick) | 52 pcs/m² |
| 25 cm wall (one brick) | 102–104 pcs/m² |
| 38 cm wall (one-and-a-half bricks) | ~155 pcs/m² |
The derivation is simple: With a 1 cm joint, one brick covers 26×7.5 cm, or 0.0195 m². So 1 ÷ 0.0195 ≈ 51.3, rounded to 52 bricks per square metre for a 12 cm wall. A 25 cm wall is effectively two such layers (2 × 52 ≈ 102–104 pcs/m²), while 38 cm has three (about 155). Different source figures are valid for different thicknesses.

Porotherm: how many units per m²?
Porotherm load-bearing units (30 N+F, 38 N+F, 44 X-therm) all need 16 bricks per square metre, because the visible wall face is the same (units 250 mm wide and 238 mm high); only the depth determining wall thickness differs. There are two exceptions:
- the Porotherm 25 N+F is 375 mm long, so it needs only 10.7 pcs/m² are needed, not 16;
- the Porotherm 10 N+F partition brick 500 mm long, so 8 pcs/m² is the required quantity.

Ytong: the fewest units per square metre
Ytong Classic P2-0.5 units (600×200×300 mm, for 30 cm walls) are the largest of these common masonry products. Mathematically, they need 8.33 units per square metre, although suppliers generally use 8.1–8.2 pcs/m² with thin adhesive mortar joints. Each unit weighs about 23 kg, with 40 units per pallet. How much does joint thickness matter?
Traditional brick figures assume roughly 1 cm (10–12 mm) mortar joints. Thinner joints fit slightly more bricks per m²; thicker joints fit fewer, with a difference of a few solid bricks per m². N+F clay units have mortar-free vertical joints; Ytong suppliers use 8.1–8.2 rather than 8.33 pcs/m² due to thin-bed mortar. Allow about 5–10% reserve for cutting and breakage.
Frequently asked questions
How many bricks per square metre?
Quantities depend on brick type and wall thickness: solid bricks need 52 pcs/m² for 12 cm walls and 102–104 for 25 cm; B30 needs 35–36, Porotherm 30/38/44 needs 16 and Ytong 8.33 pcs/m².
How many B30 bricks per square metre?
A 30 cm wall needs 35–36 B30 bricks per m² (Bakonytherm: 35, Putnoki: 36). The often quoted 14–16 pcs/m² applies to larger Porotherm hollow clay units, not B30. Details: B30 brick calculator.
How many solid bricks per square metre?
With 1 cm joints, a 12 cm half-brick wall needs 52 pcs/m², a 25 cm one-brick wall 102–104 and a 38 cm one-and-a-half-brick wall about 155 pcs/m².
Why do quantities depend on wall thickness?
The volume behind 1 m² of wall depends on thickness. A 25 cm solid-brick wall is effectively two 12 cm layers, needing about twice as many bricks (102–104 rather than 52 pcs/m²). A 38 cm wall has three rows, about 155 pcs/m².
